Intelligent Voltage Regulator Upgrade Successfully Put into Operation at a Multinational Paper Mill

Project Overview
This project is for the 35kV substation upgrade of a large multinational paper mill in Southeast Asia. Rockwill provided a complete intelligent upgrade for the outdated voltage regulators supporting two 10MVA transformers commissioned in 1998.By upgrading the traditional manual off‑circuit tap‑changer voltage regulators to an AVR automatic voltage regulator system with a 1:1 in‑situ replacement solution that requires no civil works, the system integrates surge protection, temperature monitoring and harmonic filtering functions. It completely eliminates unplanned downtime caused by voltage regulation lag, improves output voltage stability accuracy to ±1%, and enables stable, maintenance‑free operation. This delivers reliable voltage regulation for the plant’s high‑precision automated production lines and strengthens the security of power supply.

The intelligent AVR automatic voltage regulator, equipped with a dedicated electric actuator, enables second‑level real‑time voltage regulation in response to load changes, ensuring high precision and stability. It supports SCADA remote monitoring, realizing visualized operation status and remote control.
The 1:1 in‑situ design perfectly matches the existing foundation, busbars and cable layout, eliminating extra civil construction and greatly reducing outage time for renovation. The system integrates surge arresters, winding temperature monitoring and harmonic suppression modules, which enhance operational safety, reduce harmonic losses to the regulator and transformer, and effectively extend service life.Featuring a compact structure optimized for retrofitting old equipment, the regulator can be quickly installed and commissioned within a weekend without heavy machinery or demolition, minimizing impact on production.
